"Probably the finest African song singing group in the world is Ladysmith Black Mambazo. These singers rank second and they're from Canada."

Juba has ridden into the sunset

Lark Clark, Juba's driving force, has moved to NYC, and so the group is now definitely on long-term, possibly permanent hiatus.

We'll sing again, don't know where, don't know when...

In 2006, a slightly reconfigured Juba dusted off the ol' vocal chords (pun intended) and eased its way temporarily back into action. We performed an actual (low-key) gig in July 2006 at Festival Place in Sherwood Park, and we appeared (briefly) on the Folk Fest main stage.

Along with me (Scott), Kelly, Lark and Beth (the quartet in the bottom-left corner of the above photo), the 2006 version of Juba included guitarist/vocalist Kevin Smith (back row, left) and Joe Tong (middle, back row).

The other women in the photo are our three friends from Ndawana, South Africa -- Busisiwe Duma (back row), Zanele Mkhwanazi and Matukiso Mohlaode (front row). They visited Edmonton in the summer of 2006 in support of Edzimkulu. They taught us several songs, and we performed together during an "in-betweener"--a fill-in act between performers on the Folk Festival main stage on Friday evening, August 11.
